The language of instruction at METU is English.

Pupils

Middle East Technical University (METU), a state university founded in 1956, at this time has about 26, 500 students.

Undergraduate and graduate pupils from many countries attend a semester or a year-round at METU as "Unique Student" or "Exchange scholar". Middle East Specialized University is currently conducting beginner Exchange plan activities with several foreign universities.

Academic Programs

METU features 43 undergraduate programs within 5 traits. Additionally, there are 5 Graduate Schools with 107 masters and 69 doctorate programs and a "class of international Languages" including the English Preparatory Department. 15 undergraduate programs and 3 graduate programs might be offered regarding the METU Northern Cyprus Campus.

Academic 12 Months

The academic 12 months in METU is divided into two semesters. Initial term of educational year usually starts on the last week of September and leads to the middle of January. The 2nd term starts in February and leads to mid-june. METU comes with a summer college with regular programs and an International summertime class with programs of special-interest to worldwide pupils.

International Attitude
Since its basis, METU, as an international analysis college, has been the leading university in Turkey in terms of depth and breadth of international ties and the amount of resources produced from international research projects. METU actively participated in and handled many Med-Campus, MEDA, COST, Eureka, NASA, NATO, NSF, UN, World Bank, Jean Monnet, INCO, EUMEDIS, 6th and 7th Framework, Erasmus Mundus ECW, Leonardo and Socrates projects. METU in addition has tangled up in 59 FP6 tasks, 48 of them have been completely finished. In addition, 32 FP7 projects are in execution. METU features 19 international joint level programmes with European and US universities at undergraduate and graduate degree.

English since the language of instruction throughout its level programs has greatly facilitated METU's attempts to accommodate international pupils and researchers. METU hosts over 1, 700 worldwide students from nearly 94 various nations learning toward myriad of academic degrees.

METU, with 168 Erasmus agreements and 182 bilateral trade and collaboration agreements with universities in third countries (for example., in Central Asia, center East, North America, Australian Continent, china and Pacific Region), annually delivers 350 pupils and 60 teaching staff and hosts 300 students and 50 training staff/researchers.

METU is an associate of several associations and companies dealing with international education and trade like EUA, EAIE, IIE, GE3, CEASAR, SEFI, CIEE. METU actively participates in AIESEC and IAESTE summer internship programs.

METU features constantly looked for exterior assessment, accreditation and official certification by intercontinental companies, and been focused on a "quality tradition". The University has finished the process of "Institutional assessment" because of the EUA in 2002. As part of its attempts to see world-quality education, in 1991 METU started a long-term system to have all its manufacturing programs accredited by the united states of america Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The Engineering Faculty today features all its thirteen undergraduate programs approved by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (www.abet.org).
